Le Réciproque
Département de musique ancienne du CRR de Paris | Pietro Torri
In 1714, a show was presented in honour of the countryside in Raismes, near Valenciennes. Music, dance, costumes and sets are here rebuilt with techniques of the time, so as to recreate the taste and eloquence of shows produced during the end of Louis 14th’s reign.
The libretto tells the story of a young peasant’s unhappy love when the object of his love is seduced by a dragon, a soldier passing through the village. The latter does not show much interest in our dreamer. And love requires, well, reciprocity ! So when peasants who got beat up by soldiers taking away their mistresses finally get them back, they finally are the true winners. The play ends merrily with the announcement of peace, soldiers leaving and forgiveness granted to the seductive peasant girls and a banquet to which the audience is invited.
