Alfred et Violetta
Rezo Gabriadze
Legendary puppet master Rezo Gabriadze’s wonderful shows were praised beyond Georgia’s frontiers, thanks to director Peter Brook, among others. Shifting from dream to tears, the love story between Alfred and Violetta is pervaded with his home country’s destiny.
A wobbly clock tower and a pink house in the heart of Tbilisi ; the story between the artist and his puppets starts in this theatre dedicated to them, in the heart of the Georgian capital in 1981. Inspired by the Lady of the Camellias by Alexandre Dumas, the show was rewritten by the puppeteer a year before he died in 2021, to be better anchored in a 1990 Georgia shaken by wars of independence against the Soviet Union.
